Job Summary:
The Building Permit Coordinator is responsible for managing the permit process for all construction projects. This includes preparing and submitting permit applications, coordinating with architects, engineers, and municipalities, tracking approvals, and ensuring all necessary documentation is in place to keep construction timelines on track.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit permit applications to city and county agencies.
- Communicate with municipalities to monitor the status of permit applications and address any issues or revisions.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants to gather required plans and documentation.
- Track and manage multiple permits simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Maintain organized digital and physical records of all permits and related correspondence.
- Stay up to date on local building codes, zoning requirements, and permitting regulations.
- Provide regular updates to the project team on permit status and potential delays.
- Assist in resolving permitting issues to prevent delays in construction start dates.
- Act as liaison between internal team and city officials throughout the permitting process.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in permitting, construction administration, or a related field (1–3 years preferred).
- Strong understanding of local permitting requirements (or willingness to learn quickly).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with project management tools is a plus.
- Self-starter with a solutions-oriented mindset.
Bonus If You Have:
- Experience working with Mecklenburg Country, Gastonia, Kannapolis, City of Charlotte.
- Familiarity with reading architectural or construction plans.
- Prior work with a builder, developer, or general contractor.
Compensation:
A fee will be paid out for each approved permit. For larger projects like entire subdivisions the fee will be negotiated as a larger sum. Estimated earnings are $40,000-$60,000 annually.
