What You Will Be Doing
The Junior Estimator position will play a vital role in accurately assessing project costs and providing timely and comprehensive estimates. This includes assisting the estimating team and establishing a project scope and standard for renovation projects. This position reports to the Director of Preconstruction and Estimating. The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years of experience in the construction or renovation industry, excellent analytical skills, and a keen ability to work with technical specifications and blueprint.
Essential Job Functions
- Walk, photograph and scope all types of construction projects.
- Inspect buildings and/or jobsites to determine work needed per project.
- Determine baseline for labor and material requirements.
- Interpret and review plans and contract requirements in preparation for bidding process.
- Study job specifications, proposed scope of work and existing conditions to determine appropriate construction methods and local code compliance.
- Evaluate construction methods and determine cost-effectiveness of plans.
- Coordinate with subcontractor base and Renu operations personnel to determine labor costs.
- Enter costs for labor including sub-contract and turn-key contract prices into Sage 100.
- Coordinate with the Purchasing department on material costs.
- Make sketches or read blueprints to detail work to be accomplished.
- Enter estimates, takeoff and other related notes/information for each bid into Sage 100.
- Prepare and submit budget estimates to Sales for review prior to submitting bids.
- Enter and update progress tracking information into the tracking system.
Required Qualifications
- Computer skills required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) program
- Minimum: High School degree or equivalent
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in construction or renovation industry
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, learning and successfully working in multicultural environments.
- Up to 25% travel, must be able to visit potential jobsite.
- Up to 50% of time spent on computer, reports, etc.
- Travel requirements vary according to client and project locations
