In partnership with the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority, Republic Parking System operates the Ann Arbor city parking operation. Consisting of eight parking structures, 15 lots, and over 2,200 on-street parking spaces, the parking system serves thousands of parking patrons annually.
JOB SUMMARY: To serve customers at the exit by processing their parking tickets, providing change, and customer service through successful interactions that responds to their individual needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ensure that parking tickets are accurately calculated and the fee correctly collected by the customer. Communicating with customers in a friendly and inviting manner, answering questions about the operations, giving direction when asked, and ensuring a proper flow of traffic through the exit booth. The cashier is responsible for accurately accounting for every ticket processed and exiting vehicles through their lane. The cashier must accurately complete the daily cashier shift report. Cashiers must communicate and seek approval for exception transactions, identify safety and unusual security and operational concerns to management. The cashier is the face of our customer service efforts and is required to help customers with their concerns. Cashiers must assist by monitoring entry traffic conditions. Additional functions outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, including the assignment of “Structure Walking” – light maintenance duties.
Direct Report: Operations Area Managers
Working conditions and environment: Cashiers generally work within enclosed cashier booths for extended periods performing repetitive keypunch and fee computer transactions, sitting in a chair, working in a garage environment exposed to noise, crowds, engaging customers and employees, and accurately counting money and tickets. Cashiers must wear company-issued uniforms and comply with the uniform policy for clothing and grooming standards.
Required Skills: Must be friendly and courteous with customers, able to effectively communicate in English, work independently, capable of performing basic math calculations, learn to operate fee computer system and processes, follow directions and accept training practice/follow up.
Primary working hours: The facility operates 24 hours daily, except holidays. Cashiers must bid for shifts by seniority, accept mandatory call-in shifts based on seniority, and may be required in emergency conditions to accept mandatory shifts. There are morning, midday, evening, and late-night shifts ranging from 2 hours to 10 hours per day.
Pay range: Hourly, Collective Bargaining Agreement pay scale
Other notable responsibilities:
- Snow removal in short durations in affected work area
- Train other employees according to rules outlined in the CBA
- Extra work duties like window cleaning, equipment wipe down, pick up trash, direct traffic, and more.
- Comply with attendance program requirements and other rules outlined in the CBA and RPS handbook.
- Comply with any reasonable and safe direction provided by a supervisor or manager.
