BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Richmond opened its doors in October 2015 to give refugee families the tools they need to take control over their new lives in the greater Richmond area, assisting them toward self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and community integration.
SCOPE OF FINANCIAL CAPABILITIES INTERN WORK: The Economic Empowerment intern works with IRC Financial Coaches to provide educational tools and resources, financial coaching, and guidance to clients accessing IRC loan products to meet client-identified goals to increase their financial capability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support facilitation of credit education and financial literacy training with clients
Support continued curriculum development for workshops covering financial literacy topics
Research local agencies and organizations to expand community partnerships for client referrals and support advocacy efforts
Develop personal finance tools and resources, including translatable user guides, to share with clients
Assist clients with IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) loan applications and access to bank accounts
Attend staff meetings, team meetings, and training related to the position
