Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maunakea Shared Services (MKSS), located at Halepohaku (HP), on the Island of Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,000 - $4,251/Mon.
DUTIES: , work is performed in the kitchen under the direction of the Cook. Duties include preparing and serving meals, cleaning dishes, utensils, and kitchen appliances, stocking shelves, performing minor repairs to equipment, and transporting and serving summit lunch. , work is performed under the direction of the Maunakea Shared Services (MKSS) Food & Lodging Manager or the Cook in the absence of the Food & Lodging Manager. Duties include cleaning dormitory rooms, HP kitchen, bathrooms, common areas, and offices as well as janitorial services at the Visitor Information Station (VIS) and summit observatories. Duties also include loading/unloading/transporting supplies and trash between Hilo and HP using a large van, making HP room assignments, keeping the computerized HP reservation system updated and printing reports. Work schedule is variable and hours can include early morning, late evenings, weekends and holidays. May stay overnight at HP.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Two to four (2-4) years of experience as a cook, housekeeper, janitor, or custodian, preferably in a hotel setting.
KNOWLEDGE
Thorough knowledge of Hawai‘i Department of Health Food Safety Code, including hygiene, sterilization process, and temperature controls. Understands the safe and appropriate use of standard cleaning chemicals, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, blood-born pathogen protection, and Material Safety sheets. Knowledge of correct and efficient methods of housekeeping.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Ability to understand written and oral instructions, and keep records of completed tasks. Ability to perform minor maintenance repairs on housecleaning equipment, tools, plumbing fixtures, room heaters, and accessories. Ability to use carpet cleaning and floor wash/waxing machines. Ability to use a computer keyboard, email, and internet and learn to use data entry programs for entering, modifying reservations and printing reports. Ability to upload scans/photos and other information to computer. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission on unpaved roads and ice or snow-covered pavement. Must be able to follow MKSS Driving Safety Policy. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee’s initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to pass blood-born pathogen knowledge test within three (3) months from date of hire. Must be able to pass safe food handling test within three (3) months from date of hire. Must possess Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within twelve (12) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment.
PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to lift, load, and carry heavy items (up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted and over fifty (50) pounds assisted) from warehouse to vehicle and offload at HP or summit lunchroom on a daily basis. Must be able to work at 14,000 feet and pass a post offer high-altitude medical examination on an ongoing basis. Must be able to obtain tuberculosis (TB) clearance.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to cook local ethnic food items. Knowledge of healthy cooking and dietary practices. Experience performing data entry and using office technology. Demonstrated professional interpersonal skills in hotel industry. Experience functioning at high altitudes.
