DIRECTOR OF NATIVE HAWAIIAN EDUCATION – ID# 225112.

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Kauai Community College, Ka Lamakū, located in Kaua‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $6,291 - $7,083/Mon.

DUTIES: Provides leadership for Native Hawaiian cultural programs and activities for Kaua‘i Community College. This position will work directly with Executive Management and grant personnel in planning, strategizing, setting directions, and developing directions for the college in Native Hawaiian cultural programs and activities to help the college meet its Native Hawaiian strategic imperative and Ka Lamakū grant activities. Coordinates the indigenization of curricula. Responsibilities include overseeing campus-wide and culturally responsive professional development, contracting cultural and indigenous experts to train faculty on indigenizing curriculum for Kaua‘i CC and Leeward CC faculty, assisting faculty with indigenizing curriculum, chairing the Lamakū scholarship committee, serving as the campus lead to meet Kauai Community College’s Strategic Plan Imperative K: Fulfill Kuleana to Native Hawaiians and Hawai‘i, assisting with Native Hawaiian Student Success initiatives in the campus Strategic Plan, building and sustaining community partnerships, and serving on UH System committees related to Native Hawaiian programs and initiatives, as needed.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in any field.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five (3-5) years of experience in Native Hawaiian culture or indigenizing curriculum. Demonstrated excellence in leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient knowledge in communication with diverse audiences requiring cultural awareness and sensitivity.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Proficient ability to work in multi-cultural environments and establish and maintain effective working relationships with the full range of internal and external grant partners, campus personnel, and community partners. Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work effectively in an administrative organization built around a fluid, consensus-building, and team approach to cultural leadership. Experience in creating collaborative relationships with cultural community members and organizations. Experience working with faculty. Experience in community-based program and/or grant/project based coordination. Experience working in a higher education institution or system.
