Special Projects Coordinator, Mental Health Programs for the Executive Director of Mental Health & the Advancement of Racial Justice & Health Equity

Grade 24 : Salary Range : $87,405 - $105,485

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking one (1) qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Special Projects Coordinator for the Executive Director of Mental Health & the Advancement of Racial Justice and Health Equity (ED / MH), the Bureau of Mental Health (BMH) in the Division of Mental Hygiene at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

Description of Division / Bureau :

The Division of Mental Hygiene is responsible for developing, procuring, and monitoring contracts with community agencies and hospitals to ensure that New York City residents - particularly children, adolescents, and adults with behavioral health concerns - have access to a wide network of mental hygiene treatment programs and support services. The Division also conducts needs assessments and epidemiological analyses, creates annual plans for the state, develops and implements policy and programmatic initiatives, and evaluates the performance of the mental hygiene system.

The Bureau of Mental Health's mission is to improve mental health and wellness for people in New York City, and to eliminate racial and other long-standing societal disparities by providing services, resources, and opportunities to providers that are grounded in accurate, data driven information that fosters community participation, thus reducing the stigma around mental health. This includes procuring and monitoring more than 500 contracted programs that provide mental health treatment, psychiatric rehabilitation, supportive housing, care coordination and advocacy services and operating court-mandated Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT), Single Point of Access (SPOA) for mobile treatment and care coordination and NYC Supportive Treatment and

Recovery Team (NYC START) for people with first episode psychosis.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Executive Director of Mental Health (ED / MH) Programs in the Bureau of Mental Health, the Special Projects Coordinator will :

  • Develop and implement special projects requested by the Executive Director of Mental Health Programs to support and enhance program administration and monitoring of bureau contracted programming.
  • Support ED / MH in facilitating meetings for special projects, including internal and external partners, including monthly Consumer Advisory Board.
  • Support the ED / MH in coordinating racial justice and health equity initiatives; help develop, implement, and oversee activities to integrate racial equity and social justice into the bureau's contracted programs.
  • Develop reports, memoranda, talking points, briefing materials, and presentations for use by the ED / MH and other senior leaders in the Bureau based on quantitative and qualitative data provided by bureau subject matter experts.
  • Liaise with bureau, divisional and departmental offices for assigned projects and workgroups and on behalf of ED / MH.
  • Design, enhance, and manage project management systems to effectively track communication deadlines, and progress for requests, projects, and ongoing mental health programming initiatives.
  • Coordinate responses to and staffing for meetings, briefings, and presentation requests made by internal and external partners.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Public Heath, Public Administration, Public Policy, or an associated field.
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Experience with facilitation of groups / meetings.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders across internal program offices and with outside agencies to ensure project success.
  • Experience with program monitoring or program evaluation.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Proactive, reliable, and resourceful.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel, Project Management, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive responsibilities effectively and independently in fast paced environment.
  • Desire, interest, and motivation to advance health equity and social justice.
  • Experience working in Public Health, Mental Health, or related field.
  • Remote Work Policy : DOHMH employees working through RFMH are allowed a Hybrid option post training and onboarding.
