WHO ARE WE?

Resource Renew, the brand of Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD), is committed to preventing pollution and protecting the environment, including the region's most precious resource - Lake Superior. Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, Resource Renew provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota. Our operations include a wastewater treatment plant, yard waste and food scraps composting site, a hazardous waste collection site, a solid waste transfer station and a materials recovery center.

WHAT DOES A BUYER DO?

As a Buyer at Resource Renew, you can expect an engaging and varied daily routine focused on supporting our mission in the public service sector. Your typical day, Monday through Friday, will be structured around core activities such as preparation and evaluation of bids, Requests for Proposals (RFP's) and quotes, contract management, preparation of agreements, preparation of purchase orders, researching and evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts and analyzing procurement data to ensure the best value for our organization. You will actively participate in team meetings to discuss project needs, advise staff on procurement methods, administer and train staff on the purchasing policy and collaborate with various departments on procurement needs. This role is highly autonomous, working independently on challenging yet rewarding projects.

Attention to detail is vital to ensure public procurement compliance and quality standards.

Problem-solving capabilities will empower you to navigate challenges and adapt to changing needs. Finally, a collaborative spirit is essential, as this role involves working within a team-based culture that values integrity and professional excellence.

The Ideal Candidate For This Role Should Possess

  • Post-secondary degree in business, accounting or related field and two years of progressively responsible experience purchasing materials, equipment, supplies and services in an industrial setting; or such combination of education and/or experience as may be accepted as equivalent
  • Public sector experience preferred
  • Current Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB), Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) or Certified Procurement Professional (NIGP-CPP) certificate desirable
