Working closely with the Asthma and Tobacco Programs teams, the Education Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and delivering school-based asthma programs for students living with asthma and their caregivers throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs; coordinating and delivering school-based vaping programs for students and caregivers; and delivering Courage to Quit® and Counsel to Quit®; community-based lung tobacco cessation programs. This position requires experience fostering relationships with community-based partners and delivering community and school-based programs in a fast-paced environment, excellent verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Outreach and Delivery :
- Attend asthma, tobacco, and other relevant trainings to become proficient at delivering asthma, vaping, and tobacco cessation programs.
- Deliver school and community-based asthma and lung health education programs, including vaping education and RHA’s evidence-based Fight Asthma Now© (FAN) asthma management education program, throughout Chicago and the surrounding community. Program delivery will be conducted in both English and Spanish.
- Conduct outreach to schools, community organizations, and other community stakeholders to inform them of educational resources and schedule programs. Communicate with school and organizational administrators by phone, email, and through meetings to schedule and facilitate the implementation of asthma and vaping education programs.
- Deliver a targeted number of Fight Asthma Now© and vaping programs to youth and teens (ages 7- 18) with asthma.
- Deliver Courage to Quit® and Counsel to Quit®; community-based lung tobacco cessation and treatment integration programs to multiple, diverse audiences.
- Communicate and meet regularly with Respiratory Health Association's Asthma and Tobacco Program Managers and Program Director.
Data Collection and Management:
- Maintain a database of school and community contacts and program delivery.
- Collect and organize outreach data; input data into Microsoft Excel database; support analysis of program data.
- Supports program evaluation, database management, and program inventory.
- Document and track the number of asthma, vaping, and tobacco cessation programs classes and workshops delivered. Perform other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED AND experience working in Chicago's West and/or Southside communities, facilitating community-based education programs for children and adults, and desire to advance health equity in these communities.
- At least one year of experience in the implementation of community programs, health education, and/or public health initiatives.
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be comfortable and able to outreach to schools and community organizations and speak in front of diverse groups of students and adults.
- Must have an Illinois driver’s license. Access to a car is preferred but not required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Intermediate computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of asthma and lung health issues is not required. The candidate will receive all necessary training in asthma and lung health education.
