The Substitute District Manager oversees aquatics operations within one of the Association’s districts (comprised of 3 or 4 full-service aquatic facilities), including open swim, private rentals, parties, events, swim teams, swim lessons, and other activities, when 1 or more District Managers is absent. Each district has 40-50 seasonal aquatics staff members including attendants, lifeguards, licensed operators, and pool management. Daily responsibilities include collaboration with District Managers and members of the Leadership Team to address priority issues across all locations, facility rounds and inspections, teaching and training staff, interacting with Members and Guests, managing staff coverage between District pools, performing routine maintenance, conducting meetings and trainings for pool staff, monitoring and reconciling cash sales, and responding to emergency situations. Maintaining a positive demeanor, willingness to accept assigned tasks, team-oriented approach, and open communication of all issues with professional staff is essential for success in this position. The Substitute District Manager will alternate on-call coverage and for early morning / late evening hours. While primarily a weekday role, flexibility to work weekends is required when necessary. This position can require long hours and includes a daily ‘on-call’ wage in addition to hourly wage and overtime eligibility. On-call response within specified time frames based on severity of issue is required.
Requirements
- Age 18
- 3 years work experience
- 1 year supervisory or leadership experience (employment or extra-curricular)
- Confident, mature, and well-spoken
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Able to provide quality internal customer service for a diverse population including youth-based staff
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cater communication style to suit various audiences
- Microsoft Office skills.
- Current American Red Cross certification in ‘Lifeguarding’
- Current certification in Bloodborne Pathogens Training (provided upon initial hire)
- Current Fairfax County approved Pool Operator license
- Ability to move 50lbs, hear whistle alerts from 50 yards, and see hand gestures from 25 yards.
- Corrective eyewear or assistance devices are permitted.
- Current American Red Cross certification as ‘Lifeguard Instructor’ (LGI) PREFERRED
- Current, or prior, certification in nationally recognized swimming or Water Safety instruction PREFERRED
