Retro Boat Rentals ATX provides the unique experience to cruise through downtown Austin on Lady Bird Lake in vintage fiberglass boats. These boats have been restored to their original jet-age beauty, with mid-century retro colors, fins and chrome details. The best part of the restoration? The boats are equipped with the latest eco-friendly technology. This means zero emissions electric motors that create an environmentally clean, quiet experience for even the most novice boaters!
We pride ourselves on the environmental aspect of our company. Not only have we replaced motors that used to be heavy polluters, but these classic boats have been saved from being junk in someone’s back yard or trash in a landfill. These classic boats have been repurposed for everyone to enjoy.
Retro Boat Rentals ATX currently has 8 vintage fiber glass boats in the water and 2 Duffy Boats
We are looking for a positive energy, passionate, and collaborative individual that has skills and knowledge of boats to join our team.
Position Summary:
The Retro Boat Rental Dock Hand will share a responsibility for the overall day-to-day operation of Retro Boat Rentals ATX, during scheduled hours.
The aforementioned operation includes, but is not limited to;
· Cleanliness, maintenance, and overall upkeep of the retro boats
· The boats are electric and equipped with Torqeedo marine technology, learning how to troubleshoot and operate the boats will be necessary for the position
· Upholding our safety standards and properly communicating these to patrons
· Use of general technical skills, power tools, and ability to learn the mechanics of the boats
· Ability to learn the operation of rescuing stranded boats
· Maintaining lights, cleats, fenders, lines, and preserving the overall upkeep of vintage boats
· Responsibility of becoming proficient with FareHarbor (our scheduling platform)
· Communicate and maintain good relations with our partners at the Austin Rowing Club and Ro Fitness.
· Comfort working outside in Texas during the Spring/Summer/Fall months
· *Note - we stagger boat rides in mornings/afternoon sunsets for the Summer months
· Picking up any trash that floats along the banks of Lady Bird Lake (We strive to keep Austin’s natural waterway as beautiful as possible)

You will be expected to be polite, courteous, and above all respectful of both the upkeep of the boats along with and your attitude around customers and other staff members.
Keep in mind, this is a unique activity to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and we have had countless proposals on these boats. It’s our objective to make this a special experience for those people who choose to include us in their most cherished memories!!
These boats are rare, authentic pieces of history, and we take pride in maintaining them to the highest standards. That means keeping them impeccably clean and ensuring they run smoothly. Our guests are paying a premium for a one-of-a-kind experience, and it should feel just that. There should be no evidence of previous guests, ensuring each experience feels fresh and exclusive.
As a dockhand, you’ll be actively moving throughout the day, assisting with boat operations and ensuring a smooth experience for our guests.
This role involves getting in and out of boats efficiently, staying nimble on the dock, and being prepared to assist in rescues when needed.
Since you’ll be working outdoors in the Texas elements, adaptability and stamina are important. This is a physically active role that involves getting in and out of boats efficiently, staying nimble on the dock, and frequent movement all while being outdoors in varying weather conditions. Applicants should be comfortable with these demands and consider their ability to meet them before applying.

Qualifications:
High school or equivalent (preferred)
2 years of technical or mechanical experience
1 year boating experience
A positive attitude!
Track record of reliability!
Willingness to learn/abide by proper safety procedures and work with cool people
Additional Qualifications (not required):
CPR certification
ABCY certification, coast guard certification, or similar certifications
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.50 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 35 per week
