What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Associate, HSC Reprogramming position at Retro?
Retro develops therapies for diseases driven by the biology of aging. We focus on cellular reprogramming and autophagy to rejuvenate cell and tissue function with the ultimate aim of adding 10 years to healthy human lifespan.
We’re building a mission-driven team of accomplished and kind individuals who embrace our startup culture of rapid iteration, transparency, and versatility.
We are hiring a new member of the HSC Therapeutics team who will be involved in making iPSC-derived HSCs, characterizing them, and developing them into a cellular therapy product. In this role, you will enable the HSC team to move faster and iterate more quickly by increasing the capacity for hands-on work in the lab. You will report to the HSC Lead.
About you:
You are great at prioritization within your work, allowing for efficient completion of tasks. You enjoy hands-on work and value being organized, planning, and paying attention to the details. You’re a highly collaborative team member with a “can-do” attitude and great communication skills.
\n- Perform regular culture of mammalian cells, mainly stable cell lines and iPSCs using aseptic tissue culture techniques.
- Assist with differentiating iPSC lines: prepare media, characterize differentiations using flow cytometry, perform media exchanges.
- Perform cell-based and molecular assays to characterize the cells and prove function (e.g. measuring gene expression with ddPCR, DNA and RNA extraction for NGS analysis).
- Assist in processing mouse tissues and performing flow cytometry to characterize cells.
- Work collaboratively across Retro teams such as Technical In-Vivo, Computational Biology, Automation, Quality and Analytics.
- Maintain an electronic lab notebook and contribute to supporting documents, such as SOPs.
- Ensure we have all the reagents we need: maintain stocks, aliquoting cytokines, tracking usage and delivery.
- Have a B.S in Biology or related field and at least 3 years of relevant experience or an M.S. with at least 1 year of post-degree research experience in industry.
- Learn/uptake information quickly and can follow established protocols.
- Have experience with standard tissue culture and mouse tissue processing techniques.
- Find joy in helping others and working with people with different technical backgrounds.
- Have excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Are highly organized, energetic, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, ambitious, and deeply pragmatic.
- Thrive in a culture that embraces rapid iteration and open, straightforward and direct communication.
- Have experience with bioreactor systems.
- Understanding of developmental hematopoiesis.
- Have experience working with iPSCs.
