About the job:
- Assist DVMs and credentialed veterinary technicians with appointments, treatments, and pharmacy; prep patients for surgery and minor procedures, surgical assisting, and pro-actively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests
- Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and caring manner using Fear Free Methods
- Obtain accurate vitals, obtain medical histories, and/or note any changes in the patient’s condition to DVM
- Assist in collecting and preparing laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, ear, and skin cytology
- Care and knowledge of all medical equipment, including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations
- High-quality client communication on patient updates and questions
About you:
- You are a driven, enthusiastic individual who enjoys interacting with people just as much as pets
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Veterinary experience: 2 year minimum (required)
- An associate degree or course credit in veterinary assisting or animal science from an American Veterinary Medical Associates degree accredited program is a plus
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Basic understanding of animal behavior, health care, and Fear Free strategies
- Passion for working with animals, their owners, and their veterinary team
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Attention to detail in order to maintain accurate patient records
- Ability to restrain larger pets when necessary
- Ability to work scheduled shifts based on the needs of the hospital, must show up and be ready for your shift, attend monthly mandatory meetings
