Job Overview:
The Senior Electrical Designer will lead electrical design for complex electrical construction projects working both independently and in a team. As a lead designer you will:
- Be responsible for coordinating the scope of work with our clients and estimation team, develop overall distribution systems and major electrical components, coordinate with other MEP partners, and utilize Revit to realize your design.
- Complete designs including lighting (layout, controls, and photometrics), load calculations (normal and emergency systems), layout of all electrical devices, and compliance with Title 24.
- Be required to review submittals, coordinate scope changes with estimation team, perform short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies, and work with AHJ's for permits.
- Attend meeting with clients, and work with other Rex Moore personnel, including Project Managers, Estimators, Electrical Supervisors, and Foremen.
- Develop designs from engineering, design-build sales, or small projects team input.
- Effectively communicate with department members, general contractors, architects, and other members of assigned projects is key.
- Mentor junior designers and delegate tasks to assist in their development and meet deadlines.
- Work closely with design and construction teams to improve efficiency of design and installation process leveraging our in-house software development group and suite of custom design tools.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks:
- Provide electrical design leadership and project management under the supervision of the EOR.
- Autonomously complete design drafting primarily in Autodesk Revit.
- Daily tasks include the following:
- Maintaining design documentation
- Setup of Revit models
- Development of design details in Autodesk AutoCAD
- Develop and prepare project specifications
- Develop new and more advanced Revit Families
- 3D modelling and circuiting of power distribution, electrical equipment, and lighting.
- Coordination of electrical loads and requirements with Mechanical, Technology, and other discipline plans.
- Validation of design against client design criteria, pre-award direction, and scope of work
- Develop photometric plans in Visual 3D and/or Elum Tools
- Develop Title 24 forms in EnergySoft EnergyPro
- Review of product submittals
- Respond to client/construction questions (RFI’s)
- Attend client design coordination meetings and providing report out to Senior Design Staff and Project Management
- Attend Department, Company, and project management meetings
- Assist with department development and improvement tasks.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff
Lead project designs utilizing junior staff effectively
- Participate in skills training and continuing education to further develop professional skills
- Innovate processes to accelerate design development, improve quality of designs, and increase efficiency of transition from design phase to construction.
- Utilize cloud-based scheduling tools for design task management
- Participate actively in team building activities, cross training
- Follow corporate HR policies regarding project time keeping, attendance
Additional hours may be required to meet deadlines and/or support client needs
- Lead the Quality Assurance program for assigned design projects
- Validate drawings package for delivery to client
- Guide Pre-Award, Construction, and client staff on design options to reduce costs, improve installation quality, and/or increase value of end product.
- Apply the California Electrical Code with confidence
- Take initiative to research gaps in knowledge to resolve challenges independently
- Take initiative to support growth of all team members
- Support the team as required to balance work load and share responsibility
- Represent Rex Moore in client meetings.
- Support Pre-Award in bid process

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering or related field / Technical certification related to Computer Aided Drafting preferred
- Minimum four (4) years electrical design experience
- Demonstrated superior knowledge and application of the California Electric Code and relevant sections of the NFPA
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to design all aspects of electrical systems without supervision
- In-depth knowledge of California Title 24 requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead medium-sized ($1M - $10M) design projects with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to support Low Voltage and Life Safety systems design such as:
