What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Abuse Counselor position at Reynolds and Associates, Inc.?
The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) reports to the Director in performing the duties and responsibilities listed below.
Parameters of the Position
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing residents, addiction counseling services, that have been diagnosed with an addictive disorder. Addiction counseling may include limited assessment of addiction related issues, and individual and group counseling. The SAC is responsible for assisting in assessments coordination, planning, implementing, and facilitating addiction programming at the facility. The SAC works cooperatively with the resident’s primary therapist to develop treatment plan goals, related to addiction counseling, and provides timely feedback to the primary therapist regarding any mental health issues that may be impacting the resident’s ability to progress in addiction counseling.
The SAC is responsible for providing residents with employment assistance, in accordance with, but not limited to the following:
1. Prepare and maintain clinical documentation of client treatment plans and progress.
2. Provide screening, evaluation, referrals, and complete assessments for all potential clients, as assigned, with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
3. Develop, implement and document individualized comprehensive treatment plans, per contract requirements, for all clients assigned to caseload.
4. Provide a minimum of weekly, one-on-one counseling sessions, for each assigned client.
5. Monitor therapeutic progress relevant to treatment goals.
6. Refer assigned clients to family counseling sessions, when appropriate.
7. Prepare and facilitate group sessions, as assigned, and well as submit timely documentation.
8. Complete discharge and aftercare plan, on all clients assigned to caseload, prior to discharge from RRC outpatient treatment, and send discharge summaries to referring agency, within three (3) working days, after client’s discharge.
9. Supervise attendance of weekly scheduled self-help groups, and/or all activities specific to treatment plan, for each client, through documentation and review of attendance.
10. Maintain all client records, in accordance with contract regulations.
11. Assist with on-going audits of all client files, assuring that all are in compliance, with contract regulations.
12. Responsible for maintaining a close follow-up status, on assigned residents, throughout their participation in the program, through a systemic pattern of evaluation, review, consultation, and re-evaluations.
13. Utilizes a variety of sociological work techniques, to assist individuals in gaining insight and understanding of personal programs, and acquiring necessary motivation and self-control, for the reduction of dysfunctional behaviors and the reduction of drug recidivist activities.
14. Attend all required and regularly scheduled clinical meetings.
15. Make appropriate referrals, using available outside community resources.
16. Work with the assigned case manager, to coordinate services, as needed.
17. Serve as a member of the Program Review Team.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications
· The incumbent must have a four (4) year college degree, certification, and experience in the substance abuse field.
· Relevant experience in the provision of addiction counseling services.
· License in an addiction counseling specialty (Certified Addiction Counselor, Registered Addiction Counselor) or certified as a Counselor in Training, under supervision or Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or State license in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology preferred.
· Current CPR Certification, preferred.
Clearance
Employees assigned to this position must satisfy all requirements under the contract, with applicable federal, state, and local government agencies. All employees must pass an NCIC criminal record background check, after conditional offer of employment. Each employee will be fingerprinted by the Bureau of Prisons’ staff and/or a designee and is subject to investigation.
