Purpose
Responsible for basic environmental and safety leadership and coordination while supporting execution of environmental and safety expectations at the facility.
Key Safety Responsibilities
- Act as a resource to plant manager and team coordinators in supporting their efforts to achieve Company and facility safety metrics; lead and or assist in executing safety initiatives and safety goals in the facility specific EHS plan
- Interpretation, education and enforcement of appropriate safety regulations, safety rules and work rules
- Monitoring, analyzing and procuring safety supplies and equipment
- Conducting, analyzing and prioritizing results of regular safety inspections
- Monitoring and updating of J.S.A. sheets, MSDS books
- Analysis of incidents and development of preventative, educational and training programs
- Develop and maintain effective communications with injured team members, workers’ compensation department and medical community as appropriate and assigned
- Work closely with safety committees and their development
- Collect safety related data and input into eCompliance
- Support plant safety expectations through specific safety functions as required
- Participates in achieving the goals of the safety organization

Key Environmental Responsibilities
- Assisting with environmental compliance at facility
- Compiling and managing records for compliance
- Relies on independent judgment in relation to compliance issues
- On-site visits to company facilities
- Provides solutions and support to facility plant team members in environmental issues
- Collaborates with plant personnel to verify control measures are being incorporated and routine monitoring is being completed
- Inventories and disposal of waste
- Assisting state (DES) & federal (EPA) regulators during plant site inspections
- Continuing education and certification required to comply with environmental law and regulations
- Conduct sampling projects and environmental training programs for mill
- Successfully and timely complete projects and reports to be reviewed by the EHS Department and Plant Management
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously, with unexpected interruptions, and maintain a time line for completion of the projects
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Committed to working toward obtaining an Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related Science and Engineering and receiving degree within 3 years of placement
- Excellent listening, written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to make decisions and maintain composure in high-pressure situations
- Experience operating a PC with the Microsoft suite of programs
- Proven results driven leader
- Demonstrated understanding of company safety policies and applicable occupational safety and health regulations
- Strong teaching, coaching, facilitation, and mentoring skills
- Maintain the highest ethical standards in dealing with confidential information
- Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- General Industry Safety experience
- Two plus years advanced education
