Position Summary
The Community Builder is a live-in employee of an RH Community Builders’ property who has agreed to live on-site with reduced or free rent in exchange for specific tasks or duties designed to support individual tenant wellness, a tenant’s ability to remain housed, and integration within the community. The CB assists the Program Manager and site-designated Case Manager in managing the site, helping and coaching tenants, and is the point of contact for any issues that arise within the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitor activity within the community and report any incidents to the Program Manager promptly.
Act as the main point of contact for tenants, assessing and assisting with their needs related to the house and ensuring that house rules and safety regulations are followed.
Mediate conflict that may arise between tenants–reporting concerns or unresolved issues to the Program Manager and documenting all such occurrences.
Work with the assigned Case Manager on all tenant and house-related issues to ensure the program's success.
Maintain community engagement in program-related activities.
Monitor and manage the care, upkeep, and cleanliness of the houses and common areas.
Keep and maintain daily reports and records.
Build and maintain relationships with all tenants and facilitate a warm and welcoming atmosphere between all residents.
Serve as a point of contact for after-hours emergencies, including lockouts and maintenance.
Availability for scheduled hours in the evenings and weekends.
Required Skills and Abilities
Lived experience with homelessness, substance abuse, or mental health recovery is preferred.
Strong English-speaking communication skills are required.
Must have or develop proficiency in utilizing computer-related software and reports, including but not limited to Appfolio, Microsoft Suite, and Google Suite.
As part of their duties, the CB must be able to work together as a team and is expected to set up tables, chairs, and electronics. They must also bend, lift, and clean floors and other materials. They will lead activities and may be expected to speak at community events.
The CB should be willing to model prosocial tenant behaviors and coach tenants on managing their rooms and integrating into the larger building and local neighborhood.
Some experience with Special Populations, including working with persons who were previously homeless or who have mental health, developmental disabilities, physical challenges, or who are aging, is preferred.

If the Community Builder is not on-site during an event, they will be available quickly if there are problems with the setup. The schedule is flexible, although some weekend availability is required.
Most tenants in supportive housing settings do not have a car. The Community Builder is required to learn about the local public transportation options and help ensure that tenants understand them. As part of their duties, new tenants may need to have the Community Builder or other tenants ride alongside a tenant unfamiliar with public transportation.
