The Materials and Procurement Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement, storage, distribution, and management of materials required for production processes in a manufacturing or supply chain environment. The role ensures that materials are available in the right quantities, at the right time, and at the right cost, in alignment with production schedules and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize inventory levels.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure that materials are replenished in a timely manner.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and audits to ensure accuracy.
- Work with warehouse teams to ensure proper material handling and storage.
Procurement:
- Source and purchase materials, equipment, and supplies from suppliers.
- Negotiate with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, timely delivery, and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Manage supplier performance and resolve any supply chain issues.
Production Support:
- Collaborate with production managers and planners to align material requirements with production schedules.
- Ensure that materials are available and ready for use when needed in the manufacturing process.
- Monitor material usage to prevent shortages or overstocking.
Cost Control:
- Control material costs through effective sourcing and inventory management.
- Track and report on material costs and provide recommendations for cost-saving initiatives.
- Identify areas of material waste and implement process improvements to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that all materials meet quality standards and specifications.
- Work with quality control teams to resolve any material defects or quality issues.
- Conduct regular evaluations of suppliers to ensure quality and reliability.
Team Management:
- Lead and manage a team of material handlers, and shipping and receiving personnel.
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
- Set performance expectations, monitor team performance, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Continuous Improvement:
- Continuously review and improve material management processes.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in materials management and supply chain logistics.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Certification in Purchasing or Supply Chain (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, or CIPS) is an advantage.
- Experience:
- 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain management, or inventory management roles.
- Experience in managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts.
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles and practices including Kanban/pull systems and process improvement.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory management software (Knowledge of JobBoss is a plus).
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
