Position Overview
For thirty years, the Unity Center has been a warm and welcoming space that affirms and promotes equity for historically marginalized and disenfranchised students. It is at the forefront of providing services, support, fellowship, and advocacy for students with diverse backgrounds, identities, and beliefs. The Unity Center serves as a brave space on campus for all students to engage in meaningful and critical conversations that challenge systems of oppression.
Primary Purpose
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Director of the Unity Center will serve a key member of the team in the Dean of Students Office. The Director of the Unity Center will oversee the mission, vision, strategic planning, and operations of the Unity Center. The Unity Center serves as a brave space on campus for all students to engage in meaningful and critical conversations that challenge systems of oppression and affirms and promotes equity for students that have been historically marginalized and disenfranchised. It does this by working with campus and community partners to create a warm and welcoming climate where all students belong and have equitable opportunities and outcomes; offering transformative workshops for student centered spaces; and initiating restorative practices where there has been conflict. The Unity Center houses identity-specific resources for students of color, LGBTQ students, students that experience gender disparity, students with compromised citizenship status, first generation students, international students and students seeking interfaith services. Because trauma and conflict often go hand in hand with many of these communities, the Unity Center is also home to RIC’s restorative practices, and conflict resolution services.
