General Summary: Under the direction of the Collections Manager, the Collections Officer makes phone contact with members who have delinquent accounts with the Credit Union in an effort to collect past due amounts owed on VISA credit card and loan accounts. The Collections Officer also makes personal visits if necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Must have a thorough knowledge of all phases of collections and related regulations governing collection activity.
- Upon contacting the member, the Collection Officer will attempt to determine the reason(s) for the delinquency and make satisfactory payment arrangements to bring the account(s) up to date.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and up to date collection activity reports on member payment status and account standing.
- Researches payroll deduction stops, starts, or changes as they may affect the status of repayment.
- Under direction, the Collections Officer may prepare suitable documentation to correct any problems.
- Researches and advises the appropriate department of any accounts that appear as delinquent due to a Credit Union error to ensure that the member is given the proper credit and an accurate explanation of the status of the account.
- Recommends to the Collection Manager the blocking or closing of a delinquent VISA credit card account when the member cannot be reached or satisfactory payment arrangements cannot be made.
- Recommends accounts for write off when collection efforts have been exhausted.
- Responsible for maintaining a professional posture and a positive attitude at all times.
- Processes payment requests by telephone via the core system or online payment portal.
- Sends out contact letters, delinquent letters, and demand letters.
- Assists the Collections Manager with other tasks as assigned.
- Assists other departments as may be necessary.
- Must maintain confidentiality of information and ensure proper destruction of confidential records.
- Must follow all security policies and procedures as well as all established RICU policies and procedures.
- Maintains thorough product knowledge to cross-sell products and services and proactively engages in conversations with members to discover needs.
- Actively participates in all training, employee and member incentive programs, and any marketing and public relations efforts designed to increase business and improve image.

Education, Experience, Competencies and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
