Job Description
Job Coach will work with high school students at their work placements in the community. The job coach accompanies and/or drives the student(s) to work and is the bridge between the hearing world and student. The job coach meets with the employer regarding job duties and works with the student so that he/she can successfully meet the workplace expectations, devises strategies for the student to communicate with the employer, serves as an intermediary while the student becomes familiar with the social expectations of the work place, models appropriate workplace behaviors, and creates systems that will allow students to work independently and allow job coach to fade out to the extent possible. At the conclusion of each student’s work experience, job coach will obtain feedback from employer on student’s work performance and write summary reports.
The Job Coach will also assist the Transition Department on different projects. Flex Hours, Hours will vary from time to tie per student's schedule and /or projects.

Candidate must provide proof that a Rhode Island Criminal Background Check (BCI) has been completed
at a Local Law Enforcement Agency and must possess a valid driver’s license, a Chauffeurs license is
preferred. Must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), have excellent report writing skills and
possess an Associate’s Degree or higher in Education, Psychology, Special Education or related field.
Experience in community settings such as vocational evaluation, job development and job coaching is
highly desirable. This person will work directly for and be supervised by the Transition Coordinator.
Other duties may include:
* Arrange and accompany student on Informational Interviews/Shadowing/Tours
* Assist students who are preparing for internships by job coaching them in Community Based Work Experience (CBWE). A CBWE teaches work hardening to enhance work ethics, appropriate
work behaviors/attitudes, learn communication strategies and problem solving
* May assist with Transition Coordinator on various projects as assigned.
