Rhodes College is hiring an Assistant Director of the Turley Memphis Center (TMC) for Student Engagement. The Assistant Director provides creative vision and leadership for Bonner Scholars and Leaders, City Lynx, and the Kinney Community Service programs. The Bonner Program requires the Assistant Director to direct, supervise, and provide administrative oversight, which includes student selection, training, mentoring, community placements, budget oversight in Workday and BWBRS, event planning, tracking, assessment, and reporting. The Assistant Director leads campus-wide efforts to provide service and community-engaged learning opportunities for Rhodes students. Some travel and occasional evening/weekend work is required. The Assistant Director reports to the Dean of Community Engagement/Executive Director of the Turley Memphis Center. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, flexible and adaptable, a creative problem solver, an experienced public speaker, committed to working with a productive, collaborative, and energetic team, and knowledgeable of Bonner Foundation rules and requirements.
Job responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Serve as liaison to the Bonner Foundation, providing information about program assessment, changes, and the implementation of new programming.
- Attend bi-annual Bonner Foundation meetings and required Bonner trips and functions.
- Ensure all Bonner program compliance and submit regular reports to the Bonner Foundation.
- Plan and help lead weekly Bonner training, education, and reflection meetings and assignments.
- Participate in 1:1 meetings with each Bonner each semester for personal, academic, and professional advising.
- Plan and help lead Bonner cornerstone activities, including an extended first year orientation, a first-year service trip, a sophomore exchange with other schools in the Bonner Network, and the Bonner Senior Presentation of Learning.
- Identify and coordinate student service placements.
- Work collaboratively with other campus entities engaged in community-based work.
- Ensure that Rhodes students know how to gain access to service opportunities and service leadership.
- Administer and expand Rhodes Engage (Give Pulse) functionality to better serve Bonner Program and college-wide community engagement tracking and assessment needs.
- Coordinate student transportation to placement sites.
- Supervise and support the Kinney Program as they plan annual service, advocacy, and awareness events, including Rites to Play, Souper Contact, and 901/Memphis Service Day.
- In partnership with Financial Aid, administer the City Lynx (community workstudy) program.
- Under the direction of the Dean, develop and deliver workshops, training modules, and programming around community engagement for students and teach up to 4 credit hours per year.
- Attend community partner events upon request.
- Document the outcomes and initiatives of all community partner meetings.
- Serve on the TMC Directors Council.
- Serve as the TMC liaison to Student Life and student organizations.
- Work travel is required.
- Work occasional nights and/or weekends is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
- Three years of higher education administrative experience in Academic Affairs, Student Life, or Community Engagement required.
- Experience with community engagement and working with diverse constituencies required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- College-level teaching experience preferred.
- Experience with community-engaged learning, student supervision, program assessment, budget management preferred.
- Workday, Box, Slate, Give Pulse, Outlook, and Notion experience preferred.
