The Rhode Island Department of Education is seeking an outstanding educator to serve as an Early Learning Preschool Development Grant, (PDG), Fellow for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year through the 2025-2026 school year. RIDE will consider candidates who cannot begin the fellowship until the end of the 2024-2025 school year. The fellowship is reviewed each year with a potential of an additional one or two years. We are seeking strong candidates with an understanding of early childhood education, child development, current research and best practice and curriculum implementation.
Candidates must have demonstrated project management skills and experience, be confident with time-limited projects and able to complete multiple tasks at a time. Application DetailsEligibilityFull-time early childhood teachers, support professionals, current fellows or administrators in the public-school districts, community-based organizations of Head Start Agencies of the state of Rhode Island are eligible to apply for this fellowship.Fellowship Application ProceduresIn addition to completing the application in SchoolSpring, candidates selected for interview will receive a fellow packet to complete. The fellow packet that must be completed includes: 1.A clear, concise statement in response to the prompt provided;2.Supportive materials and statements, as stipulated; and3.A recommendation from the applicants building administrator or Superintendent and one other person addressing the suitability of the individual for this role. In addition, the Superintendent of Schools, Program Owner or Executive Director should indicate the districts/programs agreement to maintain the candidates salary, fringe benefits, and seniority rights as if the educator were still working within the district/program.

This initiative is grant funded and this role is contingent on receipt of grant funds. The goal of the grant is to propel the states B-5 system Early Childhood Education into the next phase of implementation, building off the previous PDG and years of focused state and community-wide collaboration supported by federal awards and state funding. The tasks outlined within the grant support advancement of the states early childhood system, drive RIs approach to supporting young children and families to prepare them for success in kindergarten and to be proficient 3rd grade level readers.Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the RIDE Director of Instruction, Assessment and Curriculum, within the Division of Teaching and Learning, and works in collaboration with division and project team members with latitude to exercise independent judgment.
Work is reviewed periodically for alignment to grant and state level goals, stakeholder input and the achievement of results.Scope of Work: The fellow will ensure that grant activities are executed according to the parameters of this federal grant. The fellow will complete the following activities.oWork with RIDEs Early Learning team to support RI Pre-K classrooms in Local Education Agencies, Community Based Organizations and Head Start programs.oMonitor providers by collecting a variety of data using a range of data collection methodologies, such as assessments, surveys, parent-interviews, and tools like ECERS and CLASS.oOptimize RIDEs ability to support quality improvement through the collection of valid and reliable data in a way that is both feasible and sustainable over time in partnership with Center for Public Leadership and Research.oFocus on continued quality improvement in a way that encompasses all RI Pre-K metrics and deliverables, by adopting the prototype system for all RI Pre-K programsoWork with the Curriculum team to ensure alignment of adoption and professional learning strategies for high quality early childhood curriculum in the scopes of work for CLSD subgrantees. oPartner with the RIELDS PD Coordinator to ensure RIELDS Professional Development and Next Steps Language and Literacy workshops are offered in a timely manner.
