Job Summary
THE RICE /STEELE 911 CENTER LOCATED IN OWATONNA, MN IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO FILL ONE FULL TIME PUBLIC SAFETY SUPERVISOR POSITION.
JOB SUMMARY: The Public Safety Supervisor shall oversee operations in the 911 Center on their assigned shift, monitor Public Safety Telecommunicators in regards to daily performance as well as address light maintenance and equipment needs, when necessary. This position also performs quality assurance checks on Public Safety Telecommunicators in addition to completing yearly performance reviews on Public Safety Telecommunicators on assigned shift. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules, regulations and procedures, and instructions from the Public Safety Manager. Employees are required to make independent decisions in the dispatching of public safety responders and resources in response to public safety calls.
Examples of Duties
Maintenance and Administration of Equipment:
- Responsible for changes/updates and employee training on current: CAD System, phone system, radio system, One Note, Rapid Deploy and Emergency Alert System
- Maintain and care for all communication and recording equipment and report malfunctions to Public Safety Manager and/or Administrator
- Compile phone and radio data as requested
- Monitor and oversee the activities and the operations of the 911 Center
- Assign and direct job duties of Public Safety Telecommunicators
- Instruct employees in performance of their duties
- Provide constructive feedback, coaching, rewards and recommends discipline to the Public Safety Manager
- Handle complaints as needed
- Schedule and/or delegate work assignments
- Maintain daily work records (time cards, vacation schedules, etc.)
- Conduct performance reviews
- Assist in the hiring and onboarding process of new employees
- Perform quality assurance checks on Public Safety Telecommunicators
- Attend meetings when needed
- Responsible for reports and data collection for meetings and presentations
- Act as liaison between the department and other allied agencies
- Recommend improvements and updates to the 911 Center and policies
- Notify Public Safety Manager of all critical incidents or other matters requiring their attention
- Answer questions and complaints from the public, partnering public safety agencies and Public Safety Telecommunicators in a courteous and tactful manner
- Train new employees
- Maintain a clean and respectful work environment while on duty
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 3 years public safety experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must pass required background check
- Must pass required psychological evaluation
- Process basic computing skills, including a good knowledge of and experience using: E-mail and Microsoft Outlook, web browsing, basic computer mapping, adobe pdf viewer, word processing and spreadsheet software, and ability to type 35 WMP
- Four-year degree in law enforcement, administration or related field
- Supervisory experience in a public safety setting
- Supervisory or management training / education in Public Safety Communications, Law, Fire or EMS field
- Knowledge of Rice and Steele Counties area/geography
- Previous experience in a Public Safety Communications, Criminal Justice, Corrections or Court setting
