About the Cohen House
Robert and Agnes Cohen House is home to the Rice University Faculty Club. The club consists of five private dining rooms, a large main dining area, a terrace, a historical living room space, and an outside patio home to the Esther M. Cohen Memorial Garden. We offer dine-in lunch service to members only Monday - Friday. Lunch consists of a daily rotating menu, a soup du jour, build your own salad bar and a baked potato bar. Additionally we service a la carte options and a curbside at the club service. The club offers a full-service coffee bar with cappuccinos, lattes, espressos and more. The Club provides meeting room spaces for Rice Departments looking to host private luncheons as well as our recently launched meeting room breakfast service. Private or department members, can access the club on evenings and weekends to host larger receptions. We specialize in events as small as cocktail receptions and as large as weddings or gala dinners.
Position Summary :
The Cook II (Garde Manger) prepares a variety of cold foods in accordance with menu instructions and standardized recipes; ensures that proper food standards are maintained in the areas of quality, sanitation, and appearance; maintains a clean work area, and assists with general kitchen cleaning.
With guidance from the Executive Chef and Chef du Cuisine, the Cook II prepares cold items such as salads, cheese boards, charcuterie, fruit plates, etc., for lunch service and for banquet settings. Cook II also assists the Pastry Chef with plating and expo of dessert orders.
The weekly schedule will vary and will include working on weekends and holidays - Must be available to work any shift required. BOH staff works both lunch service and banquets.
Ideal Candidate Statement :
The ideal candidate has experience working in a team environment and two years of related experience preferably in hotels or banquet event spaces. H / She should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks
Workplace Requirements :
LIGHT – Exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally. Requires walking or standing up to 8 hours per day. Other physical requirements of the job include manual dexterity and the ability to see, hear, reach, climb, and balance. Must be able to detect scents and discern flavors.
Work environment is a commercial kitchen and includes exposure to temperature extremes. Work hazards include exposure to chemicals, wet floors, dangerous equipment (fryers, stoves, ovens, knives, slicers, etc.), and hot oil, steam, and water.
This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency
Hiring Range : $16.50 to $18.00 per hour
- Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under are eligible for overtime.
