Position Summary
Rice University has an exciting opening for a temporary compensation specialist to join our innovative, service-oriented HR team. As a member of the total rewards team, you will work with campus partners during merit season.

Hiring Range : The hiring salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000
Work Location
This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in-person on the Rice University campus Monday - Friday. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- One year of human resources experience in compensation, workforce or data analytics, talent acquisition, or other closely related field
- Skills Required:
- Strong data analysis skills, including reporting and data visualizations
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other data analysis tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Solid understanding of compensation principles, practices, and regulations
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion
- Critical thinking to identify alternative solutions
Essential Functions
- Reviews job descriptions; applies job evaluation techniques to determine the appropriate job classification and exemption status
- Participates in and/or assists in conducting salary surveys
- Performs market analysis to determine pay trends in support of the annual salary program
- Reviews, updates and completes benchmarking for jobs
- Provides guidance regarding individual salary determinations
- Guides managers to administer the University’s compensation program on a consistent, equitable, and legally compliant basis
- Interprets, administers, and recommends revisions to compensation policies, programs, and procedures, and ensures compliance with applicable state/federal statutes and regulations
- Provides research and analyses on existing and future compensation programs, policies, and/or practices
- Manages and completes projects as directed
- Runs monthly reports and conducts audits as needed
- Completes other duties as assigned
Preferences
- 2-3 years of experience in a compensation role
- Proficient in market pricing methodologies and salary survey analysis
- Familiarity with MarketPay, Tableau, Oracle Cloud, and/or other similar systems and applications
- Effective relationship builder and teammate
- Demonstrated ability to develop and/or improve processes
- Ability to negotiate and influence
- Highly collaborative, works with all stakeholders to deliver results and keep others informed
