Job Description
Riceland Foods is looking for an National Retail Sales Manager. The National Account Manager is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Riceland’s reputation as an industry leading retail supplier to our key account partnerships. This sales leader will analyze data from multiple sources to deliver insights including customer and channel performance, competitive brand evaluation, product need / gap analysis, trend analysis and profitability analysis to drive sales growth and enhance revenues on behalf of Riceland’s Farmer Members. This role will work closely with Riceland’s national retail grocery partners and other key accounts as assigned by management to develop customer specific solutions and provide best in class service to Riceland’s growing customer base.
Job Duties
- ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT
o Work closely with existing retail grocery partners to maintain and build upon current relationships.
o Provide creative solutions to enhance trust and drive sales for both Riceland and our valued business partners.
o Develop strategies to further market penetration and drive new business within the category for Riceland.
o Work closely with Riceland’s management to develop and implement pricing strategy among key accounts.
SALES PLANNING / FORECASTING
o Work with the Riceland SIOP Team to plan and coordinate sales efforts among Riceland’s various sales channels.
o Establish customer specific sales forecasts / budgets as a part of Riceland’s standard annual planning procedures.
o Report progress towards goals established via the annual sales plan and make recommendations / adjustments as necessary.
PROFITABILITY ANALYSIS
o Perform weekly reviews of Riceland’s sales data to ensure accuracy of reporting.
o Work with sales and management to investigate and resolve any issues detected.
FREIGHT ANALYSIS
o Maintain current freight matrix for customer shipments. Coordinate with Riceland’s traffic department to ensure that all freight rates used for delivered pricing are current, and active in Riceland’s ERP system.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY MANAGEMENT
o Regular sales meeting participation
o Trade show / customer presentations
o Broker training
o Any and all other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES
In-directly supervises multiple non-supervisory / supervisory positions within the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year College or University (Business or Marketing Preferred); as well as a minimum of five years of experience in the food sales industry including experience with national accounts.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety or technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Regular contacts within the department and with other departments and levels as needed.
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
Communication with vendors, customers, and brokers as needed.
USE OF EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS
Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer, various associated software programs and standard office equipment. Strong Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
