The Marketing and Communications Specialist is a non-exempt position that reports to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. This role is responsible for creating, editing, and refining written materials that reflect the firm’s voice, promote its services, and strengthen its reputation. This position collaborates with lawyers, marketing professionals, and staff to support business development, media outreach, digital communications, and internal initiatives. The ideal candidate has excellent writing and editing skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, professional environment. We are seeking a strategic, detail-oriented Marketing and Communications Specialist to help build the firm’s reputation through powerful storytelling, precise editing, and compelling content. Office hours are 9:00am – 5:30pm, on a hybrid work schedule (four days in the office, one day remote).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proposals and Business Development
- Write and update materials for proposals and pitches, including attorney bios, firm overviews, and practice descriptions
- Collaborate on crafting responses to RFPs and other client-facing documents
- Ensure consistency, clarity, and alignment with the firm’s messaging
Firm Publications
- Manage attorney contributions to firm-produced publications, including journals and books
- Collaborate with designers on layout and formatting
- Review, edit, and proof text throughout the production cycle
- Draft introductory and supplementary content as needed
Media and Public Relations
- Draft and edit press releases to convey firm news and thought leadership
- Create engaging social media content, with a focus on LinkedIn, to highlight firm achievements, attorney updates, and community involvement
- Support media outreach initiatives in coordination with firm leadership
Awards and Rankings
- Develop strategic submissions to state, national, and global ranking directories
- Research and compile attorney and practice information to create strong survey responses
- Monitor and analyze the firm’s rankings and identify areas for growth
- Stay current on trends and opportunities in legal rankings and recognition
Website and Digital Content
- Write, edit, and update content across the firm’s website, including attorney bios, practice descriptions, and news items
- Ensure digital content is accurate, current, and aligned with SEO and brand standards
Marketing Collateral
- Draft and edit firm announcements, advertisements, sponsorships, and recruiting materials
- Assist in the creation and production of firm brochures and other marketing collateral
- Ensure all materials reflect a consistent brand voice and professional tone
Attorney Work Product Editing
- Edit legal content such as briefs, memos, client alerts, articles, and books for grammar, consistency, and readability
- Provide structural and stylistic suggestions to enhance clarity and impact
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, or public relations
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and usage rules
- Proven ability to write for a variety of audiences and content types
- Experience with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Adobe tools and InDesign preferred
- Familiarity with legal terminology and citation formats a plus
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-performance environment
