Position Title: Defining Success Program Coordinator
Employee Type: Year-Round, full-time, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday through Friday, generally from 8am - 5pm
Pay: $31.81 - $33.40 based on experience
Reports to: High School Program Director
Location: Gateway High School and Washington High School, San Francisco (REQUIRES TRAVEL)
JOB SUMMARY
The Defining Success Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and leading affinity groups designed for Black and Latinx students at Washington High and Gateway High. These groups center on four core learning pillars—Personal Responsibility, Community, Communication, and Critical Thinking—to foster personal growth and a sense of belonging among students. Reporting directly to the High School Director, the Coordinator collaborates with school administration to select students for the affinity groups and structures the groups by gender and race, with opportunities for joint sessions to encourage broader discussions.
In this role, the Coordinator will develop and implement a culturally relevant curriculum that sustains student engagement and creates impactful learning experiences. Additionally, the Coordinator supervises two Youth Program Associates (YPAs) who support the Defining Success program and work alongside the Coordinator to facilitate group sessions. The Coordinator also collaborates with SFUSD staff, student guardians, the high school team, and external service providers, ensuring that students have the necessary resources and support to meet their goals at both high schools.
RESPONSIBILITIES
DIRECT SERVICE (75%)
- Plan and facilitate Black and Latinx affinity groups, ensuring alignment with the four core learning pillars: Personal Responsibility, Community, Communication, and Critical Thinking.
- Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins with students to monitor their academic, personal, and social progress.
- Connect students with appropriate resources and services to address their needs.
- Facilitate communication between affinity groups, creating opportunities for combined sessions that foster broader community building and cross-cultural understanding.
SUPERVISION (5%)
- Provide day-to-day guidance, mentorship, and support to Youth Program Assistants (YPAs) to ensure effective facilitation of affinity groups and alignment with program goals.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATION (10%)
- Completes administrative tasks such as session notes, timesheets, attendance, and check requests in accordance with organization policies.
- Ensure data is collected and entered into database system; program materials and supplies are adequate for program needs; and youth space is maintained,
- Collect and analyze data on the effectiveness of the affinity groups, using feedback from students and other stakeholders to inform continuous improvement.
COMMUNITY PARTNERING (10%)
- Work with community organizations, school partners, and internal staff to provide mentorship opportunities for students.
- Maintains communication bridges with other youth serving organizations that provide services for youth and families.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of experience working with High School aged youth in a support role through one-on-one and/or group level interventions
- A demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations, particularly centering Black, Latinx, and Indigenous student perspectives; LGBTQQ individuals; and those identifying as neurodivergent

- Solutions Oriented: Ability to think analytically, systematically and emotionally about challenges arise and use that information to work towards a solution that works for the youth and/or team.
- Strong understanding of the cultural, social, and educational needs of Black and Latinx students.
- Proven ability to develop and implement engaging and culturally responsive curricula.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, school staff, community organizations, and external partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.
- Deep understanding and lived experience of the cultural backgrounds and experiences of the students served, particularly those from Black and Latinx communities.
- Ability to empathize with and advocate for the unique challenges faced by historically underinvested students.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and affirming environment that celebrates diversity and promotes student success.
Requirements For All Staff:
- DOJ Live Scan Fingerprinting: All employees who have contact with youth under the age of 18 must be fingerprinted under procedures established by the DOJ. We cannot employ any individual who has been convicted of a serious or violent felony, as defined by the California Penal Code. The organization also receives updated information from the DOJ during employment. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records on a case by case basis.
- Must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirements: An Associate’s degree or higher OR Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent OR Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent.
- TB Test: Every employee who has regular contact with youth is required to have a current tuberculin skin test or an X-ray examination of the lungs (with a negative result) prior to reporting for duty.
- Employment Authorization: Employees must be able to prove that they are authorized to work in the United States using any of the documentation allowed according to current I-9 processes.
- Covid-19 Vaccination: SFUSD requires all subcontractors to mandate Covid-19 vaccination: employees must be vaccinated or have a medical or religious exemption to initiate an accommodation and the interactive process.

Essential Physical Tasks: This job requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling under 10 lbs and occasionally up to 20 lbs. Because of the use of the computer, this job frequently uses the keyboard which requires repetitive motion and dexterity. In the course of the job, frequent walking sometimes over uneven and slippery surfaces, and sitting for periods of time. There is also occasional reaching.
Salary : $32 - $33
