Job Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated Guidebook Editor and Researcher to join our Book Department in Edmonds, WA. This is a full-time, hybrid position (40 hrs./wk., 3 days in the office, 2 days remote). The chief responsibility of this role is editing Rick Steves’ guidebooks; reviewing maps, proofs, and other materials; and researching and fact-checking under the pressure of a production schedule. Editors may also be asked to work on special projects as needed. This position reports to the Editorial Group Manager.
Please Note: This is a non-exempt/hourly position, based on the annual salary range listed above.
Responsibilities:
- Edits and reviews guidebooks, maps, proofs, articles, and various other publications, ensuring that content is user-friendly, accurate, and adheres to RSE style
- Incorporates updated research material and information into new guidebook editions
- Manages editorial projects and leads project teams
- Tracks and implements corrections and updates across related content
- Helps produce derivative products from core content
- Performs primary research and fact-checks to update guidebook content (either at the office or in Europe)
- Maintains good working relationships with publishing house counterparts, researchers, and co-authors
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. degree
- 5-7 years of editing experience, ideally on long-form text such as book chapters, feature- length articles, etc.
- Background in publishing (books, magazines, newspapers, other print), a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of Rick Steves’ travel philosophy, guidebooks, and writing style
- European travel experience, ideally using Rick Steves’ guidebooks, a plus
- Proficiency in copy editing, content editing, proofreading, and writing
- Demonstrated project management abilities
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
- Commitment to collaboration and teamwork
- Proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat; Teams/SharePoint and Wrike a plus
