The Department of Performing Arts at Rider University announces an opening for a full-time, tenure track appointment in dance for the BA in Dance and BA in Dance Science programs at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2024. The Department seeks a dynamic artist/educator who will join us in advancing dance to the highest professional standards while reinforcing body positivity and mind–body health and wellness. We seek a proponent of dance as an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible art that encompasses multiple dance forms.Teaching responsibilities (18 hours per academic year or 3 courses per semester) may include courses in dance technique, choreography, movement theory, dance history, pedagogy and/or dance science, depending upon the successful candidate’s demonstrated strengths and expertise. The successful candidate will produce at least one annual dance concert in collaboration with other choreographers and will produce and advise senior capstone performances/showcases.The successful candidate will lead recruitment efforts, advise dance majors and minors, and engage in departmental as well as university activities. Participation on departmental, college and/or university committees and other reasonable means of service are expected. Ongoing creative and/or scholarly work, which may include producing and/or choreographing external dance projects and/or more traditional scholarly pursuits will also be expected as the candidate moves through the promotion and tenure process.The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses the School of Communication, Media, and Performing Arts (CMPA). The BA in Dance, which lives within the Department of Performing Arts, focuses on training dancers to establish, then progressively realize their highest artistic aspirations as dance creators, performers, producers and/or educators.
