REPORTS TO: Building Principal
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License, with elementary Reading endorsement
- Knowledge in the area of early literacy: e.g., Reading Recovery training, completion of District literacy courses or equivalent college-level literacy courses
- Minimum 2 years of successful classroom or resource teaching experience at the elementary level
- Experience working collaboratively with other teachers
- Broad understanding of diagnostic tools, intervention strategies, progress monitoring, and data analysis
- Experience in flexible grouping, including small group and individual instructional practices
- Familiarity with current scientifically-based reading research (SBRR) and scientifically-based reading instruction (SBRI)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and provide appropriate intervention instruction for K – 5 students who score below expectations in district-identified literacy assessments
- Use progress-monitoring assessments (i.e., DIBELS, running records) to determine effectiveness of intervention and inform instruction
- Use diagnostic tools as appropriate
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other appropriate school personnel to establish short-term goals for student instruction and articulate appropriate entry and exit criteria
- Inform and involve parents in their child’s reading progress
- Honor the 90-minute uninterrupted reading block
- Collaborate with building leaders to plan and deliver the building comprehensive assessment system
- Attend required professional development training
- Maintain accurate records and reports
- Comply with policies stipulated when working in a grant-funded program
- Perform other duties as assigned
