Job Summary:
Riggins Company, located in Hampton, VA, seeks a detail-oriented Manufacturing Estimator to analyze project requirements, interpret technical drawings and specifications, and develop accurate cost estimates. This role involves coordinating with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure competitive and precise project bids. A background in fabrication or welding is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret commercial and technical specifications to assess cost and execution impacts.
- Review and understand drawings to determine material and subcontractor requirements.
- Perform detailed material takeoffs and generate requisitions (RFQs) for material quotes.
- Develop subcontractor scope summaries and request quotes from qualified subcontractors.
- Identify and qualify suppliers and subcontractors based on project needs and timelines.
- Assess cost-saving opportunities and develop strategic estimating approaches.
- Estimate labor costs and project timelines based on manufacturing processes and experience.
- Create independent project schedules and labor estimates for bid preparation.
- Communicate bid plans, cost breakdowns, and potential risks to sales and management teams.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma required
- Trade school training or completion is a plus
- A college degree is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in estimating, procurement, or a related field.
- Steel fitting or iron worker background is a plus
- Welding experience or background is a plus
- Manufacturing experience is a plus
- Engineering designer or drafting experience is a plus
- Skills: Estimating, blueprint reading, takeoffs, requisitions, procurement, subcontracting, costing, negotiation, scheduling, strategy, communication, analysis, and organization.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Microsoft Products. Daily use of Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Web research.
- Strong ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
