Overview of the job :

Provides forensic consulting services requiring Civil Engineering. Assesses and determines the cause and origin of structural failures, building envelope failures, and construction defects. Opines regarding the extent and repairability of such failures. Provides oral and written reports of findings, technical guidance to clients, and expert testimony.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Performs the investigation and analysis of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to assist in the resolution of disputes.
  • Completes field Investigations to support determinations of the cause and origin of property damage and failures. Document the causes of failure, extent of loss, and when requested associated repair scope.
  • Provides clients with the results of their investigations in both oral and written report format. Signs and seals their written reports after it has been internally technically reviewed.
  • Works as both a seller and a doer of our consulting services. By providing industry leading customer service and comprehensive technical investigations develops long term relationships with our insurance and attorney clientele.

Required Experience, Education and Certifications :

  • B.S. Civil Engineering degree or higher.
  • Florida P.E. required or ability to obtain a Florida P.E. by comity within 3 months of hire.
  • 5 years of experience including knowledge of residential and commercial buildings structures and design details.
  • Project Management and / or Field Investigation experience preferred.
  • Interest and ability to obtain other certifications to enhance professional resume
  • Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently and manage his / her own investigative assignments and clients with minimal supervision in a commercially minded manner.
  • Must have high level of analytical skill. Our work requires continual attention to detail with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with clients.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including but not limited to, Microsoft Office Applications along with the ability learn new systems need for specific forensic assignments.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical reports or journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to clearly and coherently write scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents.
  • Must have a high degree of professional integrity and must have the ability and desire to participate in the adversarial legal process where his / her work product receives intense scrutiny.
  • Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

    Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. client's office, industrial, construction, and / or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, erect and climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, use handheld equipment and / or tools, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

    Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Defined regular working hours are 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. However, our consultants are able to make their own schedules within the confines of meeting client scheduling needs and expectations. Occasional odd working hours may be required in order to complete technical investigations.

    Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel overnight out of area travel as most inspections are completed locally.

    The Salary Range for this position is $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications / licensure.
