Position Description – What The Role Entails
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing human resources related duties and ensures the organization meets all regulatory and compliance requirements, including organizational policies and employment law. The Human Resources Generalist - Benefits Education and Enrollment is responsible for coordinating the organization’s benefits programs, including health and wellness plans, retirement savings plans, leave policies, and other benefits. The Human Resources Generalist - Benefits Education and Enrollment works closely with employees to address benefit-related inquiries, providing education on benefit options, and assisting employees to enroll in the benefit offerings. This role is also responsible for facilitating and tracking employee transitions including salary or position changes. As with all members of the Human Resources team, this position is responsible for fostering and promoting a positive staff experience.

Areas Of Accountability - What You Will Be Doing
Benefits Education
- Provide education to new and existing employees about RFS benefits, including conducting informational sessions and developing communication materials and communication cadences.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefit questions, claims issues, and plan options, providing guidance on related HR policies and procedures.
- Manage annual open enrollment processes, including preparation, communication, and enrollment support.
- Assist new and existing employees with benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations, ensuring accurate and timely processing, through collaboration and communication with Payroll and Finance
- Maintain accurate employee benefits records in the HRIS system, ensuring that all benefits-related deductions are accurate and up to date.
- Ensure staff awareness of all benefits changes that come from any position adjustments, including but not limited to leaves.
- Provide options for current benefit enhancements, educating leadership and implementing approved changes through communication and education.
- Track benefit and transition metrics, reporting progress to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance and administer ACA, FMLA, COBRA, and other relevant regulations.
- Protect the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company polices and governmental laws.
- Draft relevant HR policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS system, leveraging HRIS automation features.
- Basic core concepts of general Human Resource laws and practices.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries, providing guidance on Agency HR and Employment policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Strong understanding of employee benefits programs and relevant regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA).
- Demonstrable knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and DEIB principles.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems or ability to learn HRIS systems quickly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization with a focus on creating a positive staff experience.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong organizational and analytical skills, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Orientation in person-centered, trauma informed, and recovery principles and practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, and 7 years of experience in a related HR role; leadership experience required; Master Degree in related field preferred.
- HR certification required (or within 12 months)
- Pass a pre-employment TB Test, and various background checks, including clearance by the DHS Background Check Unit, DCFS Background check and the Healthcare Workers Registry.
- Vehicle/License/Insurance and ability to travel to any of our offices or those of our affiliates, currently throughout Chicagoland, Cicero, Berwyn and Kankakee areas.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Forms and Teams), and Adobe Pro.
