What We’re Looking For:
Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
Certification: Must have current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
Experience: Prior lab experience preferred, but we welcome quick learners!
Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and excellent communication.
What the Role Entails:
- Performs testing and reporting of results in the areas of Blood Banking, Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, EKG’s, Holter and Cardiac Event Monitoring, Urine Drug Screening. Must communicate with other Hospital employees, medical staff, patients and patient families.
- Obtains specimens for testing from patients. These include blood, urine, stool, sputum and other body fluids. The results of which will aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patient.
- Understands the necessity of reporting accurate and reliable results. Must be able to reasonably assure the accuracy of results produced and able to interpret the results of controls and standards before reporting results.
- Must be able to work without direct supervision.
- Help maintain inventory.
- Validate test(s) for Medicare patients.
- Obtain additional information for non-covered services from physicians.
- Explain and issue ABN’s for non-covered services.
- Phlebotomy: Draw and label blood specimens of patients.
- Distribute and fax reports as needed.
- Perform controls on tests to meet manufacturer’s recommendations and CLIA regulations.
- Utilize Hospital/Clinic computer system.
- Works assigned shift/shifts, weekends and holidays, as scheduled.
- Helping other department employees when asked.
- Operate various office machines, i.e., fax, copier, computer.
- Performs miscellaneous office duties, scheduling, filing and/or retrieving medical records.
