What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Varsity Cross Country Coach position at Ripon Area School District?
Ripon High School is searching for highly qualified individuals to apply for the Head Varsity Cross Country Coach position.
The individual chosen for this position will be of high character and be able to bring exuberant passion and energy each day as they continue to build upon the program’s success. Interested applicants should express long-term plans that scaffold from beginner-level to advanced. Individuals with prior High School or College coaching and/or playing experience that are looking to build an interscholastic cross country program with autonomy are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be, or be willing to acquire, CPR certification and NFHS Coaching certification if not holding a Wisconsin Teaching License. You must comply with and uphold all WIAA and Ripon Area School District rules and regulations.
The chosen applicant will be deemed the Head Coach for the entire sport as well as manage all Assistant Coaches. All staff, philosophy, skill progressions, and expectations would be at the discretion of the Varsity Head Coach. The Varsity Head Coach will work directly with the Athletic Director and will be held responsible for all of the following expectations:
- Offering insight on scheduling
- Creating a practice schedule with daily practice plans
- Facilitate a full practice schedule efficiently and effectively with 20 students
- Teach the fundamentals, skills, and techniques based on your philosophy
- Be willing to learn and utilize rSchool
- Offering off-season training and workout assistance
- Supervision of students
- Effective communication with the Athletic Director, Staff, Parents, and Students
- Evaluate athlete success
- Be responsible for care, maintenance, and inventory of all equipment and supplies for that sport.
- Uphold the Co-Curricular Handbook
- Prepare and propose a budget for your sport
- Prepare and execute a team meeting (including parents) before the first date of practice to review expectations and set goals. This meeting must include your pre-approved Team Handbook and practice and game schedules.
- Verify/Determine all bus departure times with the Athletic Director
- Maintain and report organized records of statistics for your sport.
- Must be willing to be visible/participate in youth activities related to their program
- Attend all practices, games, and meetings.
- Prepare all awards and team recognition night
- Conduct yourself as a professional, show great sportsmanship, Ripon pride, and be a role model for the student-athletes while representing the Ripon High School and community.
Cross Country
The regular season will run from mid-August through late October. Practices are generally 3:45pm - 5:30pm Monday through Friday, but can be held at any time at the discretion of the Head Coach.
Meets will be scheduled for any day of the week besides Wednesdays or Sundays. The season will consist of 8 - 11 competitions, depending on weather, which will include Invitationals.
