Role Overview
As a threat intelligence intern for Unit 42, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in threat intelligence, focusing on the fusion of threat intelligence research from all sources. This team proactively identifies and analyzes cyber threats impacting organizations worldwide. You will contribute to the analysis of threat actors, campaigns, and emerging threats, supporting the development of actionable intelligence for our products and services.

The Unit 42 Threat Intelligence team provides threat research that enables security teams to understand adversary intent and attribution while enhancing protections offered by our products and services to stop advanced attacks. As threats escalate, Unit 42 is available to advise customers on the latest risks, assess their readiness, and help them recover when the worst occurs.

The compensation offered for this position will depend on year in school, qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $38/hr and $46/hr.

Your Impact
As an intern with the Threat Intelligence team, some opportunities you will encounter:
- Improve the quality of threat intelligence content by conducting regular reviews of our current collection to identify research gaps
- Improve the timeliness of threat intelligence content by monitoring and curating research in both open and closed-sources
- Enhance our ability to correlate open-source data with internal telemetry by gathering, organizing, and analyzing data sources
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of threat intelligence visualizations by creating and updating dashboards with current intelligence
- Ensure all threat research is useful for Palo Alto Networks' products and services by tailoring research findings to align with the needs of our organization
- Support automated intelligence gathering through the use of technical skills to aid in intelligence collection and analysis automation
- Enhance technical writing and analytical communication skills through project presentations and research articles
- Maintain a feedback loop to ensure continuous improvement in the relevance and applicability of threat research by engaging with key stakeholders, developing feedback processes, and communicating lessons learned

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field such as information systems/security, computer science, or cybersecurity
- Passion and enthusiasm for cybersecurity and cyber threat intelligence
- Exposure to common OSINT tools and techniques (e.g. VirusTotal, Shodan, Censys, YARA, MITRE ATT&CK and the general OSINT analytical tradecraft)
- Knowledge of various aspects of the cyber threat landscape (e.g. threat actor motivations, cybercrime, nation-state)
- Working knowledge of productivity applications such as Google Sheets and LookerStudio
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux operating systems
- Familiarity or proficiency with scripting and/or programming languages (such as Python)
- Ability to understand technical concepts such as… and to articulate these topics clearly to all audiences
- Ability to collaborate with a global remote team
- Willingness to bring new ideas to the table
- You must have authorization to work within the United States
- Ideal graduation time frame: Winter 2025 or Spring/Summer 2026.
