Job Summary
Serve as a supportive and collaborative member of the RISD Mail & Receiving Services team by accepting, processing, and distributing all incoming mail and packages in a friendly and efficient manner. Effectively uses RISD-approved software systems (such as SCLogic) to ensure accurate processing of mail and packages. Provides a high level of customer services to students, faculty, and staff picking up and mailing out items. Delivers mail and packages to on-campus destinations in a timely manner. Actively participate in all aspects of mailroom and receiving operations as needed.

Actively participate in all aspects of mailroom and receiving operations as needed.
Essential Functions/Duties:
- Unload mail and package deliveries from of various carriers including, but not limited to: USPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon, and UPS. Follow safety protocol when loading bins, using hand trucks and appropriate lifting techniques. Process mail and packages in an accurate and efficient manner as designated by supervisor (scanning items and placing them in designated areas, shelves, or bins, and by placing flat mail into student folders using scanners to process.) Responsible for tidying and organizing shelves and bins to expedite efficient distribution.
- Wait on customers in a timely and courteous manner, representing RISD Mail and Receiving Services professionally and knowledgably to a diverse clientele including students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Sort, meter packages, and bundle all outgoing classes of mail and packages using RISD-approved mail processing system (such as NeoPost.) (10%) Sort, distribute, and route incoming and interoffice mail to all departments campus-wide.
- Record mail charges daily on postage meter.
- Deliver departmental packages to RISD departments, either on foot or by driving, when necessary.)
- Maintain a clean, organized workplace by performing basic tasks including but not limited to: cleaning service desk, tidying work area, sweeping, wiping refrigerator, putting out trash, etc. Organize recycling area as needed.
- As applicable, open up mailroom by preparing for incoming package deliveries, and/or close the mailroom, ensuring that the scanners and handhelds are charging for the next day, lift is in the proper position, lights are turned out, and the area is ready for the next day and properly secured.
- As needed, assist Mail Services & Receiving Manager in training student workers and providing basic guidance.
Knowledge / Skills/ Experience Required:
- Knowledge of postal rates and regulations (domestic and foreign is desirable).
- Ability to operate a forklift a plus.
- Strong customer service skills are essential
- Prior mailroom or post office experience is preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or and equivalent combination of education and experience.
