What are the responsibilities and job description for the 24-25 Crisis Paraprofessional - RISE Academy position at RISE Academy?
RISE Academy is an alternative high school within Lawrence Public Schools. RISE is a trauma-informed school, grounded in restorative justice, that values relationships and mutual respect with the belief that all students want to be successful in school. RISE students learn in a competency-based structure in an academic and social-emotional program that works to prepare students for an ever-changing world after high school.
A Crisis Paraprofessional provides immediate support and assistance to individuals experiencing dysregulated behaviors. Qualified paraprofessional will have some experience supporting high school students not only academically but also social emotionally.
The paraprofessional is responsible for supporting the classroom teacher and students in activities directly related to education in the classroom.
The ideal candidate possesses a belief that all students are capable of learning. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Assisting in the education and social development of students under the direction and guidance of general or special education teachers (remotely and/or in person)
- Provide direct support to individuals in crisis, offering emotional support and de-escalation techniques.
-Providing support for students as determined by needs
- Assist in de-escalating conflicts using trauma-informed care and intervention strategies.
- Support students in regulating emotions and developing coping strategies.
-Assisting in administration of state/district wide assessments
-Implementing small group instruction as directed by the lead teacher, in a variety of content areas
-Maintaining confidentiality of student information
-Managing student behavior under the direction of lead classroom teacher
-Completing additional duties as assigned
-Substitutes teach as needed
