The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing the agency's financial records, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting by performing tasks like journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, budget tracking, financial statement analysis, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes, while maintaining compliance with accounting standards and collaborating with agency teams to monitor financial health and identify potential issues; requiring strong attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and an understanding of agency operations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Payables - responsible for entry and approval process (for both operating expenses as well as production and media vendors). Must own this process from start to finish (gaining necessary approvals, booking to the correct job/GL account, and distributing payment via check and ACH)
- Billing - assists with billing and invoice creation for agency fees, production costs and media reconciliation
- Bank Reconciliation - reconciles bank entries on a daily basis and keeps accounting software current with recent transactions
- Expense Reports - manages and approves all employee expense reports, tracks down necessary approvals from managers, ensure expenses are booked to the correct job/GL account (and knows what is billable vs non-billable)
- Agency Receivables - manages incoming payments from clients and applies in accounting software, proactively follows up with BI teams to ensure clients are paying on time
- Company Credit Cards - gather receipts from operations team and reconciles/uploads into accounting software, ensuring costs are booked to the correct job/GL account
- Sales Tax - responsible for monthly reporting of sales and use tax to the State of MN and other states based on client location
- Month-End Close and Tax Prep - assists Director of Finance with month-end close process and the gathering of necessary tax information
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- 5 years’ experience in general bookkeeping or accounting; agency or professional services experience a significant plus
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion managing sensitive information.
- Workamajig experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of agency dynamics and office support
- Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a strong focus on quality, accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong time management, proactive problem-solving, and analytical skills required
- Experience with computerized ledger systems
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
- Proficiency in Google: Gmail, Google calendar, shared sheets and documents
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment
Compensation package
Salary range for this position is: $75,000-$85,000.
