Rise House provides a promise of hope and a haven of safety for adults and children seeking relief from domestic violence and sexual abuse. Rise has advocated for and assisted survivors of family violence and sexual assault in the central Arkansas area since 1995. Our goal is to help each person who comes to our door rise up from the threat of domestic and sexual violence. Rise is currently looking to expand our team and are currently hiring for the part-time advocate position.
Advocate
Job Description: Reporting to the Lead Advocate, the Advocate is responsible for working directly with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, providing resources and services to individuals living in shelter. Develop programs and resources that promote moving towards self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Advocacy and Support: Provide empathetic and trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, helping them develop safety plans and access needed resources.
- Conduct intakes and assessments to understand the unique needs of each survivor. Offer crisis intervention and emotional support to clients in need. Comfortability with having hard conversations and making challenging decisions. Assist survivors in accessing legal, medical, counseling, and other necessary services.
- Team Building: Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and leadership.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and healthy mindset even in challenging situations. Promote an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that ensures everyone’s perspectives and experiences are valued. Collaborate effectively with other advocates and staff members to develop and implement support for clients.
- Resource Coordination: Maintain an up-to-date resource directory of local service providers, legal assistance, and community resources.
Coordinate with Lead Advocate to build and maintain partnerships with external agencies and organizations to expand the network of support available to survivors. Research and refer residents to community resources, such as food stamps, healthcare, mental health services, support groups, etc. Educate and connect residents to services available to them. Ensure compliance with safety protocols, confidentiality, and all applicable laws and regulations. Manage crisis situations effectively and coordinate with appropriate authorities when necessary. Provide transportation to residents using a Rise House vehicle based on the transportation policy. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with a very diverse population with a wide array of needs and backgrounds. Coordinate with Lead Advocate and Program Coordinator to develop and implement support groups and educational programs to empower survivors that build self-esteem and independence. Encourage and facilitate survivor participation in decision-making processes within the shelter. Ability to maintain a neutral stance while mediating conflict. Maintain bed arrangements and availability up to date
- Shelter Operations Answer hotline calls and document client services provided
- Client Empowerment: Prioritize the well being and empowerment of survivors, ensuring that all team efforts are aligned with the best interests of survivors.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and send end of shift reports
- Maintain the calendar up to date with transportation, donations, and any shelter or client related matters.
- Ensure proper reporting of services provided and client interaction.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Clean driving record
- Strong computer, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work with people of various ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Must be passionate and self-disciplined.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- The work environment may include exposure to crisis situations and emotional distress.
