About the Role
A leading packaging manufacturer and distributor is seeking an experienced Merchandising Lead to drive sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management for assigned product lines. This role is critical in ensuring product availability, optimizing costs, and maintaining strong supplier relationships while supporting overall business objectives. The ideal candidate will have a background in packaging procurement, vendor negotiations, and inventory optimization within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management
- Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans that align with business goals and customer demands.
- Source and purchase products for open stock and custom customer requirements while ensuring cost efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to drive collaboration, secure competitive pricing, and maintain product quality.
- Negotiate supplier contracts, including pricing, terms, volume rebates, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations and lead continuous improvement efforts.
Inventory and Procurement Oversight
- Monitor and manage inventory levels, ensuring 95% fill rates while minimizing excess stock.
- Utilize ERP and procurement systems (e.g., ProcurePro, Amtech) to track purchasing data, market trends, and supplier performance.
- Ensure timely processing of purchase orders, customer requests, and quotations within company procedures.
- Validate and negotiate vendor price adjustments to ensure cost competitiveness and avoid margin erosion.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Compliance
- Work closely with sales, operations, and customer service teams to ensure smooth sourcing, procurement, and order fulfillment processes.
- Participate in procurement councils or strategic sourcing initiatives to identify vendors and cost-saving solutions.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, supplier agreements, and industry regulations.
- Stay ahead of market trends, material costs, and supply chain dynamics to drive strategic decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Three or more years of experience in purchasing, procurement, vendor management, inventory control, or supply chain.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience managing supplier contracts and rebates.
- Industry experience in packaging manufacturing, distribution, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP procurement tools (ProcurePro, Amtech, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Ability to analyze market data, optimize costs, and drive supplier performance improvements.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, operations, and logistics teams.
