What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Department Assistant Manager position at Rivanna Authorities?
JOB SUMMARY Performs regular supervisory duties and primarily directs the processes and operations at specifically assigned Rivanna Water Treatment Plants, does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Department Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervises and directs the operators and the daily operations of the water treatment plants.
- Monitors employee performance, keeps clear and concise records, and may conduct employee performance evaluations in conjunction with Manager guidance and oversight.
- Assists with hiring and evaluation of prospective employees.
- Serve as trainer, mentor, and coach to Water Department staff.
- Acts as supervisory/technical lead in plant operations.
- Runs necessary testing to profile the performance of the processes and set treatment goals and ensure they are met to include setting operational strategy and determining maintenance needs.
- Assist in the development of SOPs and Operator training checklists to help the operation staff to have a better understanding of and better perform their duties.
- Oversees and schedules all preventative and predictive maintenance as directed.
- Maintains an effective working relationship with Authority Staff and the public; follows procedures and properly responds to any complaints.
- Serves as a resource and a consultant related to the treatment processes at any of Rivanna’s plants.
- Troubleshoots chemical feed and pumping equipment as issues arise.
- Directs or prepares periodic records for plants and other records as assigned by Manager.
- Assists the Manager in the generation and preparation of all of the monthly plant operational reports.
- Develop, implements, maintains systems for reporting and record keeping as instructed.
- Works with the Relief Operators to complete Compliance Sampling as needed.
- Works with SCADA Technician to ensure plant systems are functioning properly.
- Serves as a resource for operator training, advising the Managers on the need for specific operator training and working with operators on general and specific training needs.
- Assists in preparing annual O&M/CIP budget for the Water Department.
- Participates in Rivanna Authorities Safety programs by setting good safety examples and promoting safety in the workplace and by performing duties and tasks in an environmentally safe manner.
- Fills in at facilities as needed.
