Summary
Seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Project Engineer to oversee and execute critical engineering projects. Responsible for project implementation from design to completion, including design, material procurement, programming, commissioning, and ongoing support. Responsible for managing various aspects of electrical projects, from concept to completion. This role requires strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leads of assigned project team of engineers and technicians, provides guidance and support throughout the life cycle of large scale projects.
- Mentors and advises junior engineers to foster their professional development.
- Designs and develops engineering and control systems for a wide range of projects. These projects include but are not limited to engineering projects, industrial automation, robotics, and manufacturing processes.
- Creates and reviews electrical plans, schematics, and specifications.
- Develops and implements control system applications and code for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and other control devices.
- Ensures compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Provides technical expertise and guidance to project teams and clients.
- Develops bids/budgets by estimating labor, material, and construction costs.
- Collaborates with clients, architects, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Identifies potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the reliability and safety of control systems.
- Oversees project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Monitors project progress, identify, and resolve issues, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Collaborates with project managers and cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Develops project plans, budgets, and timelines.
- Maintains accurate project documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and as-built drawings
- Stays up to date with the latest advancements in control engineering and automation technology to propose innovative solutions.
- Drives process improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of control systems and processes.
- Participates in continuous learning and stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Adheres to and promote safety regulations with both the company and customer. Ensuring a safe working environment for the team and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Ensures compliance with relevant safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Establishes and enforce quality control processes to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical systems and components.
- Ensures that engineered systems meet industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality standards.
- Conducts comprehensive testing of control systems to ensure functionality and reliability. Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during the project.
- Interacts with clients to understand their requirements, provide project updates, and address any concerns or change requests.
- Prepares and deliver project status reports to clients and senior management
- Confers with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
- Designs, implements, maintains, and improves electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes
- Operates computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
- Directs and coordinates manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements
- Performs detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications
- Inspects completed installations and observe operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
- Plans and implements research methodology and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects
- Prepares specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
- Supervises and train project team members as necessary
- Investigates and test vendors’ and competitors’ products
- Oversees project production efforts to assure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time and within budget
- Prepares and studies technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, and topographical maps to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements
- Develops bids/budgets by estimating labor, material, and construction costs
- Compiles data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects
- Complies with company, customer, and OSHA safety requirements
- Participates in company related safety/medical tests (e.g. background & drug screenings, physicals, hearing tests, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Job Specifications
- Proven experience in controls engineering, including designing and implementing control systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI development, and knowledge of control hardware.
- Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Proven experience in electrical and control systems engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of experience preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
- Strong project management skills, with a successful track record of completing projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies (e.g., AutoCAD, PLC, HMI, programming software).
- Knowledgeable in National Electric Code NFPA 70 (NEC) and Arc Flash Electrical Safety NFPA 70E Standards
- Knowledge of all OSHA requirements in relation to construction and company safety policies.

Education & Experience
BSEE, BSME degree from a university accredited by the ABET, Associates of Electrical Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience) along with ten (10) or more years of relevant on-the-job experience.
