Position Purpose:
The GIS Technician/Surveyor is responsible for collecting and processing survey data to produce accurate maps and spatial datasets utilizing CAD and GIS software. This role involves close collaboration with surveyors and engineers to ensure data accuracy and adherence to project specifications. The technician will frequently work with industry-standard tools such as Esri ArcGIS, IKE Office, and PoleForeman software, contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality geospatial solutions.
Responsibilities/Duties/Knowledge
Data Processing and Map Creation:
- Process survey data to create accurate maps and spatial datasets.
- Convert and prepare raw survey data into a usable format for GIS systems.
- Use CAD and GIS software to create, edit and append maps and spatial layers. (PoleForeman, ArcOnline, and ArcGIS Pro)
GIS Data Management:
- Manage, maintain, and update GIS data sets, including spatial data, metadata and standards.
- Ensuring data quality and accuracy through data verification and validation procedures.
- Develop and implement data standards and procedures for GIS projects.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborating with surveyors and engineers to make sure data accuracy and project requirements are met.
- Assisting with the preparation of survey documents, reports and GIS analysis.
- Communicating technical information to field crews and other team members.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support to field crews and resolve data discrepancies.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of GIS hardware and software.
- Assist with drafting design work and preparing maps and exhibits.
- Involvement with conducting field investigation as needed.
- Interacting with customers regarding utilities, surveys and ither GIS-related questions.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a closely related field and a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience, or;
- Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification or Professional Surveyor (PS) License is required
- Must have a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English
- Able to travel long distances at short notice, when required
- Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
- Willing to work overtime when requested
Preferred Qualifications:
- Power Line Design & Stacking Certification are preferred
- Esri Technical Certification are preferred
