The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) plays a key role in fostering mutual peer support, promoting hope-based relationships, and collaborating with clinical teams. This role focuses on relational interactions to empower individuals, emphasizing "learning together rather than helping." CPS team members contribute to team synergy by blending clinical and peer perspectives to provide comprehensive support to clients.

- Facilitate team engagement and encourage clients to seek help, especially when facing treatment ambivalence.
- Develop authentic, meaningful relationships with clients and families through empathy and shared experiences.
- Collaborate with clients to identify personal goals, promote self-awareness, and support life skill development.
- Document all client interactions and contact attempts.
- Report weekly client updates, including employment or education status, to the team.
- Communicate client challenges or difficulties to team leaders (TL).
- Possess a Certified Peer Specialist Certificate and a GED or high school diploma.
- Must have a primary diagnosis of mental illness or a dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance use disorder.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to identifying as a current or former consumer of mental health services.
- Valid Georgia state ID, required.
- Pass a satisfactory background clearance and pre-employment drug test.
- Provide two professional references (former employers only, no family members).
- A valid CPS certification is required or must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
- Empathy: Ability to understand and share the feelings of others, crucial for providing effective peer support in challenging situations.
- Communication : Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to facilitate meaningful connections with peers and convey information clearly.
- Case Management: Proficiency in organizing and managing client cases, including coordinating services, maintaining records, and tracking progress.
- Crisis Intervention: Skill in providing immediate support and assistance to individuals experiencing mental health crises, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Documentation : Ability to accurately record client interactions, progress, and treatment plans in accordance with organizational standards and confidentiality protocols.
