Title: Playschool - Assistant Instructor
Reports to: Youth Program Supervisor
Position length: 25-35 hours per week
Playschool: 8:30a-11:30p
Afterschool care: 3-6p
Position Purpose
Assist in Instructing children ages 2-3 in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth. Assist and support staff caring for Kindergarteners after school.
Essential Responsibilities
- Help set up classroom daily with play equipment and needed items creating a fun, safe, and caring classroom.
- Greet each child and parent on arrival and listen to parent concerns or needs.
- Interact with children by playing or observing them and help transition children to new activities.
- Listen and watch for any problems that can be diverted.
- Demonstrate a caring and encouraging rapport with students.
- Help the children with bathroom duties.
- Encourage good manners at all times.
- Supervise, children when going outdoors; maintain constant head count.
- Practice emergency plan with class.
- Track immunizations and complete needed paperwork.
- Be informed of any medical or allergy protocol of children in classroom.
- Organize book orders.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Prep & implement lesson plan every other week or as required.
- Collect supplies needed and order supplies for lesson plans and snacks; keep classroom organized.
- Communicate with co-teacher and director about plans and if I need extra help with crafts etc.
- Make sure emergency names and contact numbers are up to date and on hand.
- Prepare snack rosters.
Minimum Qualifications
2 or more years of experience working with children in a preschool or early childhood development center; must have valid Oregon driver’s license.
Must poses a calm demeanor; exhibit patience; be an upbeat, flexible, spontaneous, effective communicator. Must love children and be mindful of tone of voice used.
Wage: $16.11 – $17.43 per hour commensurate with experience.
