Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Human Resources Generalist to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting various HR functions, ensuring that our workforce is effectively managed and developed. The ideal candidate will be a fierce multi-tasker interested in several Human Resources areas, including talent acquisition, onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, culture programs, etc. The ideal candidate will have experience full-cycle recruiting, and the ability to shift gears daily depending on needs. The HR Generalist will report to the General Manager.
Duties
- Maintains all employee records on active employees to include current information such as salary, job title, class, employment, and benefit dates, state and federal withholding forms, immigration forms, evaluations, and other applicable information.
- Maintains files on former employees and coordinates unemployment data when necessary.
- Completes data input sheets which include new hires, terminations, transfers, reinstatements, promotions, title and salary changes, changes in status, address changes, tax changes, etc.
- Handles general correspondence, leave letters, employment verifications, requisitions, check requests, expense reports, separation notices and scans documents.
- Handles recruitment advertising for job openings, both internal and external. Process applicants' reference checks. Produces correspondence and maintains applicant files.
- Schedules physicals with candidates, Risk Management, and Employee Health Services.
- Responsible for setup and breakdown of new hire orientation. Creates and processes new employee documents during orientation to ensure that all necessary documentation is completed.
- Handles inquiries from employees, applicants, and outside agencies promptly and courteously. Provides any allowable information and directs any further inquiries to the appropriate manager.
- Responsible for scheduling interviews, interviewing candidates, and sending applicants assessments as needed.
- DOL unemployment hearings.
- USCG Consortium Progarm (Drug Screen)
Skills
- Knowledge of general office procedures as they relate to an HR department. Knowledge of computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, ADP, and 7 Shifts. Strong verbal, written, and mathematical skills are required. The ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the staff on all levels of administration including immediate supervisor, management, and co-workers required. Ability to handle confidential information. Ability to plan, organize, and execute high volumes of work.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Human Resources experience.
Education
- Required High School Diploma or related work experience.
- Preferred Four-year college degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
- Either Maritime or Hospitality experience a plus.
