Under the direction of the Principal and Band Director, the Assistant Band Director leads and oversees the secondary music program, teaching and directing a band. They plan rehearsals, select music, teach music theory, and organize performances. Strong leadership, communication, and musical skills are key to success in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities Specific to Assistant Band Director:
- Directing the Junior High Band (7th-8th Grade) to include rehearsals, concerts, after-school lessons, ASBOA events, etc. Nights and weekends are expected during scheduled events
- Assisting with the High School Band (9th-12th Grade) to include marching practices, rehearsals, marching competitions, concerts, athletic events, after-school lessons, ASBOA events, etc. Nights and weekends are expected during scheduled events
- Team-teaching the Beginning Band (6th Grade) including like-instrument and mixed instrument classes, rehearsals, and concerts
- Team-teaching Jazz Band (9th-12th Grade)
- Assist with establishing performance requirements, enforcing academic requirements, and verifying each student’s eligibility to participate in band
- Assist with various aspects of program management such as completing ASBOA registrations and coordinating travel arrangements for events
- Assist with managing instrument and music inventory (cleaning, recommendation of repair or purchase, instrument assignment, and storage)
- Working with Rivercrest Band Boosters, and supporting booster activities through actions such as promoting the booster club and attending booster club meetings
- Adhering to the high expectations of a superior band program.
- Other teaching responsibilities may be required pending district needs and applicant strengths

Education, Experience, Competencies:
- Arkansas Teaching License/ ability to obtain teaching credentials
- Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in United States required
- CDL (Class B) with School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brakes endorsement, or willingness to obtain is preferred
